Year 22 - 2017
The 22nd annual contest took place against continuing political and economic uncertainty, prompted by the inconclusive General Election result and fears over Brexit. Passenger demand had continued to fall in many parts of the country, including London, in the face of the continuing growth of home shopping via the internet and growing traffic congestion in our town and city centres.
The industry is facing a time of rapid change - as emphasised in speeches to the Presentation Ceremony by UKBA Chairman Mark Yexley and guest speaker Leon Daniels. The industry will embrace the change - as it always has done, and this was reflected in the range and quality of entries for the 2017 competition.
Again, there was no shortage of people, projects and organisations to judge in the competition, as we boiled down over 250 nominations to the 106 finalists. The finalists were announced at an event at the Museum of Transport, Greater Manchester on Thursday 12 October, attended by more than 80 industry representatives. The ceremony took place for first time at Troxy in Docklands, and attracted an audience of over 710 people.
