UK Bus Awards to reward "Unsung Heroes"

The UK Bus Awards Management Committee has decided to expand its recognition of outstanding service in the bus industry by making awards to ’Unsung Heroes’. The prizes will be presented to one or more individuals who perform junior or middle management roles in the industry and are known for their hard-work, loyalty and devotion to duty.

The awards will be made for the first time In 2010, and will form part of the segment of the ceremony in which we also make our long-standing Award for Services to the Industry.

UKBA chairman John Owen commented, "the ‘Unsung Heroes’ are those who keep the wheels turning against all the odds; no transport operator can do without such people – even though they often slave away for years with no recognition save their own satisfaction in a service delivered and a job well done".

The Management Committee is asking organisations and authorities involved in the industry to suggest people who should receive the awards. "Whether they work for the operator or the local transport authority our ‘Unsung Hero’ will be someone who demonstrates the importance of ensuring that the services are delivered for the passenger and for the local community," explained John Owen.
