{"id":2873,"date":"2020-04-21T22:59:14","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T21:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ukbusawards.dns-systems.net\/?p=2873"},"modified":"2020-04-21T22:59:14","modified_gmt":"2020-04-21T21:59:14","slug":"top-uk-bus-drivers-from-same-village-in-rural-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ukbusawards.org.uk\/new\/top-uk-bus-drivers-from-same-village-in-rural-india\/","title":{"rendered":"TOP UK BUS DRIVERS FROM SAME VILLAGE IN RURAL INDIA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.0&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;0px|||||&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.0&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.0&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.0&#8243; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>20 November 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nottingham City Transport driver Jatinder Kumar was crowned \u2018Top National Bus Driver 2019\u2019 yesterday at the UK Bus Awards in London, and Gurnam Singh from Swindon, Stagecoach West took the bronze.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Until the award ceremony yesterday it was not known that Jatinder and Gurnam are both originally from Nanda Chaur in the north of India, a village with a population of just 3,500.\u00a0 They fought off competition from tens of thousands of bus drivers nationwide to take the top titles.<\/p>\n<p>On winning Jatinder said: \u201cWhen you\u2019re nominated the dream has started. I never thought about that. I was a really normal person, struggling for a job. It\u2019s something I never thought about. Now it\u2019s a dream!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cUntil I was at the award ceremony in London and I spoke to Gurnam we had no idea that we were from the same village, it was such a surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Top National Bus Driver award is highly contested and is sponsored by Volvo Bus, it recognises outstanding achievements in delivering exceptional customer service as well as driving safely and considerately.<\/p>\n<p>Superstar bus driver Jatinder Kumar is described by his employer as: \u201cOne of the most compassionate and caring people you could ever meet.\u2019 He moved to the UK so he could pay for his sisters&#8217; education, putting other people first comes second nature to him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Milkman Gurnam Singh, has recorded a staggering 56 customer commendations in his first two years of being a bus driver. He is described as being \u2018a true role model for exemplary customer service, safe and smooth driving and he is professional in all aspects of his work.\u2019 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Silver went to Keith Thomas, a Swansea grandfather and driver at First Cymru, who, from personal experience, is a passionate advocate for raising awareness about hidden disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Yexley, Chairman of the UK Bus Awards, said: \u201cHuge congratulations to Jatinder, what a fabulous achievement! Congratulations to Keith and Gurnam too, they have also done tremendously well.
