The first round of judging for the 2016 UK Bus Awards is almost complete, with one last panel meeting, for the London awards, scheduled to take place next month.
Five panels of independent experts have already met and deliberated over the past four weeks, selecting those nominations which should go forward to the finals. For the operating and driving awards, the next step will be for the Mystery Shopper trips to take place, and the volunteers are all organised. UKBA Chairman Tony Depledge commented, "We're immensely grateful to everybody involved in this process of independent judging - the people who agreed to serve on our panels, the staff at the Society of Operations Engineers for their hospitality. A special word of thanks is owed to our Convener of Judges John Owen and our Events Director Jamie Cash who attended all the sessions and oversaw the process."
Those people, projects and organisations selected for the final round will be notified over the next two weeks, and invited to the Finalists' Announcement event which will take place this year on Thursday 6 October at the Volvo Technical Centre, Warwick.
Wednesday 27 July sees the start of the judging process for the 2016 UK Bus Awards, as the independent panels begin a series of meetings to compare and assess over 260 nominations across the full range of categories.
"We're very pleased indeed with the response to this year's call for nominations," said UK Bus Awards Chairman Tony Depledge. "Our revised categories have created a huge response, and we're particularly pleased that over 80 members of the public took the trouble to nominate their favourite bus drivers for a prize."
The UK Bus Awards is delighted to announce that former transport minister Norman Baker has accepted an invitation to present the prizes at this year's UK Bus Awards Presentation Ceremony on Wednesday 23 November.
As transport minister in the Coalition Government, Norman addressed three successive ceremonies in 2010, 2011 and 2012, earning a special award as a result. Following his departure from the House of Commons in last year's General Election, he has accepted the post of Chair of Bus Users UK.
The key dates for the 2016 awards scheme can be found here. The events are following a similar pattern to previous years, with nominations closing in early June. Judging will take place during late July and early August, the short-list announcement will be in early October, followed by the Presentation Ceremony in November - with a return to our spacious and exciting venue on London's South Bank.
