Special Award for the 2012 Games Transport

The recipients with transport minister Norman Baker and UK Bus Awards chairman John Owen

For only the second time in its history, UK Bus Awards wants to recognise and reward a project that is not an entry but nevertheless exemplifies excellence within the UK Bus Industry.

The Olympic and Paralympic Games was the largest sporting occasion ever held in the UK. The transport arrangements were an unqualified success and were a very major contributor to the smooth running of the whole event. The years of planning and testing paid off and all involved - the athletes, wider games family and the general public - enjoyed quick and reliable bus services provided by dozens of operators, from the largest to the smallest, drawn from the length and breadth of the British Isles. This special award was made to congratulate the organisations responsible for the planning and delivery of the bus and coach transport for the 2012 Games.

The Management Committee awarded this Special Award for the Planning and Execution of Bus and Coach Transport for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games jointly to:

  • Arriva Passenger Services
  • ECT Charity
  • FirstGroup
  • The London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games
  • Mott MacDonald
  • The Olympic Delivery Authority
  • Stagecoach Group
  • Transport for London

As delivering transport services for the Olympic and Paralympic Games this year was such a great team effort, the organisers felt it unfair to single out any particular organisation.  Instead, they wanted to reward all those who came together to deliver such an excellent service, without which the London 2012 Games would not have been such a thumping success.
