UK Bus Awards Events
Our 20th annual competition took place against a background of rapidly falling oil prices and continuing public expenditure cuts, which had a particular effect on tendered service networks. The growth of internet shopping was also seen to be having an effect on demand. Nevertheless, there was continued growth in many parts of the country and the UK Bus Awards judges were once again impressed by the quality and inventiveness shown by many of the 200+ entries.
The Finalists Announcement took place on 6 October at Wythall Transport Museum in Worcestershire, where finalists and organisers alike received a really warm welcome from museum staff and volunteers - which all made for a very special day. The 20th anniversary of the awards was celebrated in some style at our new London venue - The Ballroom on the South Bank at which over 630 people acclaimed the winners: Jane Hill from BBC News was our compere once more, and the guest of honour was Jeff Halliwell, chair of consumer watchdog Transport Focus. For the first time ever, an officially organised After Party was held at which guests were entertained by the bus industry's very own band, Never Mind the Bus Stops.
