Go South Coast’s (Bluestar) Eastleigh Bus Depot has been awarded gold and the title of Top National Bus Depot at the prestigious UK Bus Awards 2017 in London today.
The Top National Depot category, sponsored by Personal Group, recognises bus depots that provide an outstanding service and are truly committed to their customers, communities and employees. Only six bus depots from across Great Britain reached the final.
Go South Coast’s outstanding performance saw them achieve a hat-trick at the awards with them leaving with three golds: Top National Depot (Eastleigh Bluestar), Top Shire Operator and overall UK Bus Operator of the Year.
The depot is committed to its customers, employees and the environment. Its green initiatives include a new bus wash which utilises rainwater collected form the depot roof and any litter left on vehicles such as newspapers or drink cans are all recycled.
There are extensive training and development schemes for employees, and they have high levels of staff engagement. They run an Employee of the Year scheme with a top prize of £3,000 and two weeks additional holiday.
Mark Yexley, Chairman of the UK Bus Awards, said: “The judges were impressed with the high levels of employee engagement, citing numerous staff initiatives including apprenticeship schemes. They felt there was a direct correlation between morale and the exceptionally good operation they run for customers.”
“We would like to congratulate Go South Coast on their remarkable success. Well done from everyone at the UK Bus Awards 2017.”
The silver award for Top National Depot went to Arriva Midlands’ Shrewsbury depot and the bronze to Crawley’s Metrobus.
